SCORE 89 We are working with mr. Peter may(associate regional director of the national park service), ms. Elizabeth elliott(vice presdient foggy bottom association defense & improvement corporation) jim woodworth(head of planting for casey trees) and keith pitchford(local arbortist) to save (6) kwanzan cherry trees that are about to be demolished at the old west end library. The community has been working to save these trees in an effort to maintain the beautiful landscape within the district of columbia. These trees are approximately 8" caliper, 18- tall trees. We have a "public space permit" authorized from ddot, pending payment, to dig up and remove the existing trees. We thought we had a place for the trees to go and unfortunately that fell apart. We have recognized an area owned by ddot that would be a nice home for the trees. The area is located at 27th street nw between k street nw and virgina avenue nw. Dccr proposes one geotechnical boring (prt-03) located in the greenspace between 27th street nw and virginia ave nw. The boring will be 6 inches in diameter and 215 feet deep. A temporary steel casing will be installed and socketed into the potomac clays. A monitoring well will be installed at about 125 feet below ground surface upon boring completion. The work will require 24/7 occupancy of the work space and will take up to three weeks to complete.
