The community has been working to save these trees in an effort to maintain the beautiful landscape within the district of columbia. These trees are approximately 8" caliper, 18- tall trees. We have a "public space permit" authorized from ddot, pending payment, to dig up and remove the existing trees. We thought we had a place for the trees to go and unfortunately that fell apart. We have recognized an area owned by ddot that would be a nice home for the trees. The area is located at 27th street nw between k street nw and virgina avenue nw. SCORE 89 24th Street Nw And L Street Nw Washington Dc We are transplanting (9) exisiting kwanzan cherry trees form the old west end library, to a small park a few blocks away. The old building is about to be demoed, and the citizens of the district want to save the trees versus having them cut down during the demo. We are appling for a "public space permit" to perform our work. We have attcahed a site plan (also one that is enlarged) as well as a traffic control plan (also one that is enlarged). As you will see from the plan we will not impact sidewalk use by pedistrians, only blocking off the public space containing the planter boxes for the trees and the walkway leading to the entrance of the library as well as to the parking lot behind. This building is unoccupied. All utilities have been turned off. We will be able to use the westend library parking lot for our trucks and equipment so there will be on-street parking required for us. This is a last minute opportuntiy to save the trees, and we apologize for the short notice request.
